Inspiration is supposed to come at night. It just is! How could it not, when there is a full moon shining brightly outside your window, when there is a soft breeze pushing back loose strands of your hair playfully and pulling your lips upwards into a smile; when all you hear is the persistent buzzing of the light bulb and the steady ticking of the clock on the bedside table; when you’re sitting cross-legged on the bed, a notebook on your lap, a pencil in your hand, and the rest of the house is asleep. How could inspiration resist coming?
Slowly, an idea begins to form in your head, tickle your mind, and you rush to write it down, to decrypt the code that is your thoughts. But as your pencil scrawls on aimlessly and words start to appear, they somehow feel like a badly translated text. They make no sense and sound too lame, or too deep- depending on how you look at it, to be taken out of your head.
You turn the page to a blank one, and as you stare at it, you realise your mind is just as empty of ideas as it is. You don’t give up, though, because there is an itch inside you begging you to move the pencil as swiftly as you used to; and you can’t ignore an itch. It drives you crazy.
And so there you are, starting all over again. You have a paragraph or two and you’re getting excited, because there are your words getting untangled and your pencil is just about to take over, when your brain shuts down again.
Damn you, night! Where is the inspiration that is supposed to come with your tranquillity?
You repeat the process three or four more times, still refusing to give in to reality. Eventually, you slam the pencil against the paper, and are inspired to write about being completely uninspired.

I LOVE IT!
Btw I haven’t told you that I’ve been recently having a very strong urge to write (thanks to u guys who keep posting inspiring stuff). Anyway, that’s exactly what I experience everytime I start to write. But hopefully I will come up with something 😀
and I loved how ur lack of inspiration resulted in a cool piece of writing!
Why, thank you!
Lack of inspiration can indeed be pretty inspiring sometimes xD
Yeah, you should try out writing. It’s healthy for the mind 12
I often experience this as well, the idea of something that needs to be transcribed and nothing coming out. It is a frustrating occurrence that I constantly have to overcome. I think initiating the writing phase is most difficult, but once started I can usually go for awhile. Great post.
Thank you.
And you’re right, it’s getting the first sentence or two right that requires the most effort. Afterwards, the words seem to flow on their own!
I LOVE IT!
Thx for the work
I’m glad you liked it!
My inspiration usually comes at night…but in the form of dreams haha. Sleep is wonderful for the creative mind; think of it as the ultimate exercise in free association.
One tip to foster creativity: write down your dreams. A lot of my stories are inspired by dreams!
Great post, for being uninspired 😉
The thing is, I actually hate sleeping. It just feels like an utter waste of time for me. Even if I slept, it’s usually for no more than 5 hours, if not less.
I love dreaming, though, but it doesn’t happen often enough for me, sadly. Right now, I’m still waiting for an inspiration for my next post ¬_¬…
I try to write down my dreams, but I’m never bothered. However, since you mentioned what a great inspiration they are, maybe I’ll try harder.
Your comment is much appreciated, thanks for the tip! 🙂
